It is really odd that when my Dad retired he decided that he needed loads of hobbies so that he did not get bored. He joined walking and badminton clubs as well as astronomy, music and art groups. He made sure that he was doing something every day apart from one day a week that he took my Mum out somewhere. It is interesting that now he has been retired for a few years he is doing less things. He is concentrating on his music, which he has always loved and the badminton because he thinks keeping fit is crucial. He has a whole collection of paintings but says that he finds it too hard and when he went to classes he did not have a particularly good teacher and so didn’t do very well. I remember him doing some really good Monet Paintings but I guess that he was not happy with just copying things and wanted to do something original but just did not find that he could manage it. I suppose it makes sense to not keep going with something that stresses you out, especially when you are retired. Why not just concentrate on having fun – surely that is what it should all be about.
