melungeons - well, we’re a mixed breed, but of what, no one is quite sure; it’s not exact. Gypsy, Black, French, we don’t really know, but you can go to the website and check it out. Basically, we’re considered Caucasian, but we’ve very dark (when my son was born, the doctor asked if his father was Mexican! - actually, his father has blonde hair!) My maternal grandmother’s mom would call her kids “you little melungeons!” when she’d get mad at them! When she was little, and my grandfather saw her for the first time (I guess she was about six), he said to his dad, “That’s the prettiest little Black girl I’ve ever seen.” Grandma was American Indian and Melungeon, not Black. Funny thing is, when my son was born, my mom babysat for him while I worked. The little neighbor boy who lived near my mom asked his mother, “Can I go over and play with that little Black baby that Wanda keeps?”

Is the American economy heading for the same disaster that hit Japan in the early 90s?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I think the american disaster might be worse than the one in Japan.

Japanese had and still have one of the highest saving rates in the world. They save a higher percentage of their income than people in most other countries save.

Whereas americans have one of the lowest saving rates in the world. A great many americans have huge debts and their net worth is negative.

The Japanese were in a lot better position to weather their economic downturn than most americans are at the present time.

But there are some similarities between the Japanese crisis and the present one in USA. Just like in Japan before, the US government is doing its best to prevent insolvent banks from failing and thus eliminating bad debts in the economy. The continued existence of sick banks who might fail at any time will keep the investors and the healthy banks fearful and less willing to take risks in the economy.

How long have humans been on earth?

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

By this I mean I define Humans as what we are today, not homoerictus or any other form on neolithic man.

The earliest fossilized Homo sapiens remains, which are anatomically identical to us, living today, which were found in the Omo Gorge, of Sub-Saharan Africa, have been dated to 195,000 years ago, which implies that “we” were around much earlier, because those wouldn’t have been the very “first” of our species!

———

The earliest human writing was found 5500 years ago. (which is what I would use as evidence of reasoning).

Chimpanzees can use tools

But I suppose it depends on how you define us as humans.

Just for the record I’m not a creationist, I believe in evolution. Just trying to take a different slant on answering the question. Writing denotes a highly evolved method of communication, defining a culture or society. Probably Human Culture existed before this time but writing, IMHO shows an evolved level of critical thinking akin to human society as we know it today.

What is malthusian?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

:of or relating to Malthus or to his theory that population tends to increase at a faster rate than its means of subsistence and that unless it is checked by moral restraint or disaster (as disease, famine, or war) widespread poverty and degradation inevitably result

Why does Hollywood stereotype black guys as……?

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

violent, dangerous, addicted and obsessed with prostitutes, gang related crime, gambling and killing other people?

It’s just annoying! Not all black guys are like that. Just like not all women are submissive and weak.

i know what you are saying, and i don’t think it will stop because we accept it and some black guys are even living it, util we step up and black actors start refusing does parts it will not stop. I find it very offensive. I know they need to works so they can eat but come on we never stop having to sit at the back of the bus until we refused to ride the bus, it’s a similar situation

Seriously, what is wrong with men?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007
  1. I’m sorry for what you’ve had to go through, but, no, not all guys are jerks
  2. Perhaps you need to meet some males worthy of your attention. We’re not all that way.
  3. I agree that not ALL men are jerks, but it seems like all the men you have met are. You need a change of scenery girl. Get out of that hell you call “home” and you may start to meet some decent people (even guys)
  4. You have a very common life.Know that your story isnt very different than than the next woman. What i say is if you always look where you always look you will always get what you get.Try newer surroundings. And good luck!
  5. You tell me what makes all men in your life like this. if you can’t change them for better don’t let them change you. have a faith and try to make your life better always.

believe it or not there are some fantastic men out there, you just have to know where to look. nobody can make excuses for what has happened to you, and none of it is your fault. your brother is probably harbouring some issues though, regarding the father and step father situation, as you probably know, your father and step father would have been the role models for your brothers behaviour. this doesnt make it right though. maybe you should talk to him, him may not even know he is the way he is. you also need to talk to someone (ie a psychotherapist) about what has happened to you, if you havent already, they will help you deal with what happened as well as give you some more self confidence. as for the boys at your school, all boys are like that, and maybe making friends with some girls wouldnt be a bad idea, but be choosy, as you will probably confide in them your deepest darkest secrets. as for the guy who told you to go away, it could be that he had more on his mind thatn you know about, and he is finding it hard to deal with his problems as well as yours (he could have been a bit nicer though). you never know, he might have been the nice guy you are looking for and may care about you a hell of a lot, which then it would hurt him to see you in so much pain.
sorry about the long winded reply, but i hope i helped.

  1. hang in there.youve just had one hell of a life so far.were not all assholes.i wish the best for you because more than likely your going to or probably already do have major trust issues when it is going to involve us.i wish i could of been the most recent friend of yours because what i need more than anything right now is a female friend.not trying to get a laugh from the guys.lifes a strange place.it’ll be alright.it’ll all work out.
  2. Really, not all of them are jerks, but the majority are. Don’t worry you are 17 you will meet a lot of good guys. May be you need to try some time to avoid friendship with men. See what will happen, may be you need to take your time.
  3. After reading your post…
I’m sorry that you had to go through all that…
Try joining a “support”-group, as in just a group of people coming together having some fun.
I’m a Christian youth leader, and we have a youth programme.
I’m sure you could probably find something somewhere that would fit you.

By the way. I believe everything happens for a reason. Keep your chin up. Stay positive.
If you get through this, you will be an ambassador for women who have the same problems. And perhaps you can even help them. Let that motivate you.
But first. Help yourself. You are strong. You CAN get through this.

  4. U have gone through some big difficulties! All I can say is ur plain unlucky regards to males. Hope you find a nice person soon.

This is the first time I’ve had a dream where I actually decide to stop running?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007
  1. Usually if I dream that I am running it is because I have a problem that is bothering me. I’d say things have settled down for you and going smoothly. I hope I am right for you.
  2. I really don’t know. But I don’t like pit-bull…..
  3. It may been you’ve decided to face whatever problems you have and deal with them, rather than run away from them. I think this is a very positive dream for you.
  4. Stop handling dogs to avoid dreams about being bitten!
  5. You are coming to grips with a situation in your life. You have avoided for too long. You have run away from the situation, not wishing to face it, for fear of failure/defeat. You have come to a place in your life where you have the confidence and intelligence to solve the problem.
  6. It means you’re ready to face your fear.

Is it possible to control our dreams when sleeping?

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

What you are talking about is called lucid dreaming. I think, with practice, it is possible. Ever seen the movie Waking Life? After watching that, I was obsessed with lucid dreaming for a while. It’s difficult though, and I’m not sure it makes for the most restful sleep. But, in your case, I guess it’s better than nightmares.

Is anyone familiar with diminishing returns?

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Diminishing returns can be defined as the fall in the marginal physical product of an input as the total amount of the input rises, keeping the other variables constant. Diminishing return sets in after a possible initial increase in marginal returns. In economics, it is also referred to as the ‘law of diminishing returns’ or ‘diminishing marginal returns’. Technically, the firm’s short run marginal cost curve will eventually increase.

You can understand the concept better by the following example: Say you have a store with 5 employees. You pay these employees a salary, plus commission. Business is booming and you hire more employees hoping to make more sales but remember that includes more salaries per employee and more commissions per sale. You keep adding more employees and so forth. At some point, the number of employees you add will result in diminishing returns because your costs will exceed your expected profits. In other words your marginal return will begin to decrease.
