Would my dog unintentionally harm the puppy?

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

I have a male German Shepherd , he is 1 year old but he is extremely big for his age. We want to get him another puppy for company (6 weeks old). My dog is extremely friendly and loves to play. The only problem is that when he gets excited he bites and it can be sore. So I was wondering if I got him another pup would my dog unintentionally harm/kill the pup?

Puppies can be a pain in the bum, if they are allowed to do so they will pester any dog. Ideally you should wait until your present dog is older and is fully trained. If you are determined to get a puppy sooner. Leave your new puppy with the breeder until he is at least eight weeks old. A puppy will need several meals a day and lots of sleep. You must provide him with a separate sleeping area and isolate him from your other dog while he sleeps. A puppy will need several meals a day and it would be helpful if you feed your other dog every time that you feed the puppy. Your dog may resent the puppy if he has more meals than he does.

Don’t thrust the dogs together and don’t expect your dog to “baby sit” the puppy. Play MUST be supervised. If the puppy is cheeky, please do not intervene if your dog chastises it. Your present dog is still a junior; if the puppy is cheeky you should separate them.

When your puppy is resting in its own room, play with your dog and give him extra attention. Take them into the garden/yard and walk around with them. Supervise their play at all times to ensure that the puppy does not overwhelm your dog. I am sure that if you introduce them with care and consider your present dogs feeling that you will not have any problems.

A six week old pup is too young to be adopted out….Eight weeks is the preferred age. Your dog could harm a puppy…even though it would be unintentional is it worth the risk to the puppy? You’ll have to answer that question. I wouldn’t advise it.

My cat had surgery and now is obsessed with food. Help!?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

About 2 years ago my cat had a urinary blockage. It almost killed him. The vet performed a surgery however his diet completely changed. He can only eat urinary tract healthy wet and dry food to keep crystals from forming again. I feed him some in the morning and some at night. I don’t know the exact measurements but our other cat eats the same amount and is fine. However he seems to never get full. Ever! He is always meowing for more food, and its like he is yelling at us that he is starving. My parents (whom we live with right now) will keep feeding him and feeding him sometimes when I am not home just to get him to shut up, which I know its making it harder on him plus it is hurting his digestive system. My parents will never listen to me about that…how do I make him stop? Is there an appetite suppressant that will keep him full throughout the day until he actually needs more food. Why is he obsessed with food?

Get his thyroid checked. A hyperthyroid cat is constantly starving as their metabolism is running too fast.

Also get him checked for diabetes, especially if he is overweight. Diabetes has three major symptoms- super hungry, super thirsty, and peeing a LOT.

African Dwarf frogs?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I have a 1.2 gallon and I wanted to put African Dwarf frog(s) but:
1. How many should I put?
2. What flooring should I use sand,gravel,ect.?
3. Should I use artifical or real plants?
4. Do I need a filter why or why not?
5. What can I feed them?

1.I think I would only put in 2 small ones.
2.Sand or gravel would work (I have gravel)
3.Aftificial plants would be easier in such a small tank
4.The frogs don’t necessarily need a filter as long as you do partial changes each week. They are able to breath from the surface like bettas so they are pretty low maint.
5.frozen bloodworms

——–

  1. I would put in one, but if you really want two, it would be O.K.
    2. I think you should probably use gravel. It is a lot easier to clean and two place plants and rocks in .
    3. You should use artificial plants for sure. They are easier to maintain. I don’t think real plants would do well in such a small tank. Also, make sure there are enough rocks and plants, as African Dwarfs love to hide.
    4. I’m not 100% sure, but I use one and would reccomend using one. Why? Well, small tanks are very hard to clean, and a filter allows you to clean it less frequently. A heater is needed for sure.
    5. I would reccomend Top Fin* Algae Thins and Tetra* ColorBits. Both these products are available at any major pet store. (PetSmart, Pet Co. etc.)

Selling My Baby Guppies!!!???

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Where do I sell my baby guppies!!!??? I have 29 babies and I can’t keep all of them!!!

Unfortunately, unless they’re show quality Guppies, it’s very doubtful that anybody will buy them. Guppies are so cheap because anybody can breed them, and pet store Guppies are far from the quality people will pay real money for. For pet store Guppies, the most you could hope to get is a few cents per fish, especially if they’re less than an inch, or haven’t gotten their adult color yet. Keep in mind that if you sell them on a website, you’ll almost certainly have to deal with shipping them.

On the off chance that you have some spectacular Guppies, try Aquabid: http://www.aquabid.com/

First, look in your yellow-pages (or yahoo’s yellow pages) and see if there are any local independent (mom & pop) tropical fish stores - they’d probably buy the from you.

If there are none, then call your local petsmart or petco (the bigger chain stores), and ask if they’d be interested.

If that doesn’t work out, try craigslist online. That will keep your sale limited to your local area.

When should puppies be taken away from their mother?

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I have 4 Minature-Dachshund puppies that are almost 3 weeks old. I know it is way to early right now to let their new owners take them. When is the average age they are taken away from their mothers.

Puppies shouldn’t leave Mom until they’re at least eight weeks of age, and there are actually some good reasons why veterinarians recommend this.

Dogs, just like people, develop social skills as babies. Puppies pick up some critical information during those first two months, from interactions with their littermates and with their mother. They learn appropriate responses and boundaries in play. It makes for easier to train and more socialable dog in most instances.

Another reason is the overall health of the dog. At eight weeks of age, our puppies have, through the course of nursing, acquired whats called “maternally derived antibodies”. This is a fancy way of saying they’ve obtained superior immune systems and immune responses to some common infectious diseases through a substance in Mom’s milk called colostrum. It’s more likely that they’ll respond well to vaccinations after they’re sent off to their new homes.

Good for you, investigating before you rehome your new pups. I’m sure you’ve got some great families lined up - what an exciting time! Have fun these next few weeks, and take lots of pictures!

The average age is 6 to 8 weeks. Once the mother starts to kinda wean them herself is also a good time. To feel completely safe try between 8 to 10 weeks old. They will do great. The longer you wait after 10 weeks the harder it will be for you to let them go. & you don’t want to dissapoint the new owners.

When they are properly weaned. Some breeders let the pups go at 6 weeks, but I think they are much better to be kept until they are 8 weeks.

What kind of fish should i get?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

5.      female betta are nice, you can find them in pretty colors if you look hard, and lots of little guys like neons and tetras are pretty easy

6.      I don’t know much about fish. But one thing I do know is get fish that can mix together. They say three of the same.

7.      The cute little mini sharks.

8.      cichlids are mean dont get them!!!! i have some danio’s platty’s those are the ones i have had the best luck with. but make sure to get a succker fish or and algi eater also… snails aren’t that great.

Do u find cats scary?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007
  1. No I don’t and you wouldn’t either if you gave them a chance.
  2. OMG yes! and cat ppl get insulted when i get scared of their cats

as to why? i dunno something in the eyes, the way they strut…the whole superstition thing about them…..both my siblings claim they saw a black cat in their room when they awoke in the mid of the night and everything in the house was locked…both were on different occasions

  3. I definitely find cats creepy. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I think it is because they remind me of evil magic( you know black cats and witches).
  4. I love cats! Had cats all my life! Never had a dog. Cats are so cool!
  5. I find them intriguing! You never know what is going on in that head. And their eyes are just stunning! It is kinda creepy when they jump up and do the crazy cat run without any provocation, but hell, it’s really entertaining after the initial startle.
  6. No I like cats but some can look scary if they have no ears or something or those hairless cats, those are creepy.
  7. shave it.
  8. No not at all….but I know someone who is…..lol

Why is my 8 year old cat?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007
  1. He is marking his territory. Or take him to the vet just to make sure. But I’m pretty sure he is just marking his territory
  2. Well it COULD be just an aging cat thing, however urinary problems are common with male cats. He could have a bladder infection, or worse- kidney or bladder stones. I lost a male cat to bladder stones. Peeing around the house was the first sign of any problem, and by then it was too late. Some other health problems like diabetes and tumors can cause this too. If I were you, I’d take him to the vet right away and make sure he’s alright.
  3. some one has come inside your house with another cat scent on their shoes, cats have a good nose, so your cat smells it and trys to out spray it with it’s pee!!Try cleaning some areas with citiral oil.
  4. I won’t waste time with a lengthy answer, but.. this site here:
    http://www.hdw-inc.com/litterbox.htm
Has plenty of information on your problem, just scroll down a little to “URINE MARKING AND SPRAYING” and read up on that.
  5. Inappropriate elimination is often a symptom of urinary tract infection. The cat begins to associate the pain he experiences while peeing with the litter box, so goes elsewhere. He might also be trying to get your attention.

So your first step is to have the cat evaluated by a veterinarian. If you notice he is straining a lot but not producing much (may seem constipated), then it is urgent enough to find an emergency vet after hours. Male cats sometimes get blocked up, and then it is only a matter of hours before it is too late. If he is not completely blocked up, then it can wait until morning - but make sure to get him in to see the vet tomorrow.

Here is a link to a good article on how to solve litter box problems, in case it’s not a medical issue http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pe…

  6. He is marking his territory.
  7. is he spraying or urinating?

the first thing that comes to my mind, especially with an older cat is kidney issues or diabetes. it could also be a urinary tract infection. if this is a new thing for him to do, a trip to the vets is a good idea. if its not a medical issue they can advise you on what to do for behavior problems.

how are is appetite and water intake?

If you don’t want to be officer in the military, is it still worth it to go to a military academy?

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

If you want to study law, you should major in English Literature and learn how to interpret literature works because you’ll do a lot of interpretation in litigation and testimonies. Studying law involves a lot of reading and it’s hard work. This is what some real lawyers told me including some Air Force and Marine Lawyers who were Officer Selection Officers at my college. So English literature is the one you should be majoring on nothing else except maybe for those who are engineer and science majors that are in those majors to be patent lawyers or environmental lawyers.
I’m not going to tell you how to get into the Academy because I never went there, other people in this thread who’ve “been there and done that” said it best. But I do know that it is very, very, very hard to get into there. You have to be like a valedictorian in your high school, score very high in the SATs, and played sports throughout high school. If you’re an enlisted servicemen, you have to be an outstanding NCO leader among your enlisted peers and score very high on the ASVAB. Not just any average Joe Shmuckatelli off the street can get in. My cousin is an enlisted Marine and is trying to get into the Naval Academy via NAPS (Naval Academy Preparatory School)
As for being a pilot, that’s not really true that you have to be an engineer to become pilot. I know the Air Force and NASA prefers pilot candidates to be engineers and science majors. But I’ve seen some Navy and Marine Corps pilots who were not engineers but liberal arts and business majors. There are high school dropouts in California, Washington State, and Alaska who are civilian bush pilots (the people who put out wildfires). You don’t need a science degree to fly a plane, maybe knowledge of basic physics and meteorology. They’ll teach you everything you need to know in civilian flight school or military flight school. Check out these websites for becoming a military pilot:
