Aviation Maps

Aviation maps are crucial to any pilot on any aircraft, they serve a very important purpose, to help pilots, aircrafts and passengers arrive at their destination safely. For over 70 years, a company called Jeppesen have been creating these aviation maps as well as many other navigational planning equipment and services. Pilots are legally responsible for choosing the most up to date and correct sky chart available to them, if the choose an old one or the wrong one, they would be breaking the law and will be held responsible. Different air navigation charts are needed for different type of flights, so it’s important for the pilot to assess the flight before-hand and make the right decision.

Aviation maps contain an amazing amount of information, they will look very confusing to the average person, but pilots are trained to read these sky charts, although there is a lot of information out there, especially on the internet to assist the pilot in choosing the right air navigation chart. The information held on these aviation maps can be visual obstacles, landmarks, checkpoints, roads, rail roads and even information such as controlled airspace etc. So as you can imagine it’s such an important choice to make, lives could be at risk if the pilot does not make the correct decision in this department.
